What it does
Prepares a manager for a one-to-one in the two minutes before it, using what actually happened since the last one. What shipped, what stalled, what got blocked and by whom, what was picked up outside the plan — and the things worth asking about rather than reporting on. The framing is deliberate. It surfaces work, not throughput: something blocked for eight days is a question about the blocker, not about the person waiting on it. It never scores, ranks, or compares anyone, and it will refuse to produce a productivity read however the request is phrased — because a one-to-one that doubles as a performance measurement stops being a one-to-one within about three sessions. It also carries the thread. It reminds the manager what was agreed last time and whether it happened, which is the single thing most one-to-ones lose and the reason people stop raising things in them. Everything is sent privately to the manager. It never posts to a channel, never writes to a ticket, and never records anything about an individual anywhere.
Example prompts
- I have a 1:1 in five minutes — what should I know?
- What's been blocked on someone else's review for more than a few days?
- Did what we agreed at the last one-to-one actually happen?
