What it does
Discovery Research Agent compresses the one to two weeks of desk research that precedes entering a new problem domain. You supply what you have gathered — a market-size figure, the players you know of, complaint themes from forums and review sites, and the entry barriers or regulatory constraints — and it turns that into a structured, sourced research brief. The brief covers the market size estimate, a competitive player map, complaint themes severity-scored by mention volume, the entry barriers and regulations, and opportunity hypotheses. The hypotheses are derived rather than imagined: the loudest complaints crossed against thin player coverage. That intersection is where an opportunity actually lives, and because it comes from your two inputs rather than from a model's general knowledge, each one traces back to something you can check. The guardrail is the reason to trust the output. Source quality varies enormously across web, forum and review data, so every claim must carry a source URL — and a claim without one is not quietly downgraded, it is force-classified critical, flagged MISSING SOURCE in the finding, and raised as a top-level warning. An unsourced market-size number in a strategy deck is how a bad bet gets made, and this agent refuses to let one pass as ordinary. Sections you do not supply come back empty with a warning rather than filled in on your behalf, and running with only a domain name and no data returns a brief explicitly flagged as simulated. Each part is callable alone. `find_complaint_themes` returns the pain points. `map_players` returns the competitive map. `derive_opportunities` returns the hypotheses. `estimate_market_size` and `list_entry_barriers` each stand on their own. The analysis is deterministic; a language model only narrates, and free text is sanitised before it reaches the prompt. No connectors and no credentials. Built for product managers and strategy teams evaluating a new domain.
